Mamamia

Mamamia

Mamamia Club in Torre del Lago Puccini, in the province of Lucca, is one of the landmark venues of Italian nightlife and LGBTQI+ culture. Founded in 1999 by Christian Panicucci and Alessio De Giorgi, it was created to build a space of freedom and inclusion, and quickly became a reference point for the national and international gay-friendly community.

The club stands in the marina of Torre del Lago, an area already known for its welcome to the LGBTQI+ community and part of what is now called Versilia Friendly. For over twenty years it has lit up the summer nights with themed parties, drag queen shows and house, pop and revival DJ sets, in an open, cheerful and inclusive atmosphere. During the summer season, from May to September, the activity extends to Mama Beach and Baddy, where aperitifs and sunset parties take place.

The club is also accessible to people with disabilities and has large spaces, both outdoors and indoors.

Beyond entertainment, Mamamia is a cultural and social symbol: it helped make Versilia one of the most welcoming destinations in Italy for the queer community and has hosted events and campaigns linked to inclusion and civil rights.

On summer nights it is best to arrive early, because the club is very busy. Public transport and taxis are useful for getting home at night. Although openly gay-friendly, Mamamia is open to everyone: straight couples, groups of friends or singles, all sharing the wish to have fun in a free and respectful place. The nights often change theme, like the White Parties or the drag shows, so it is always worth checking the programme.
